ROME (ITALPRESS) – It is entitled “60th GPG – Fencing, Dreams and Values”. It is the book, written by Dario Cioffi and Luca Magni, on the “Renzo Nostini” Youth Grand Prix – Kinder Joy of Moving Trophy, which celebrated its sixtieth edition this year in Riccione, The Race – with capital initials – of the heart for every person who feels or has experienced, for a lifetime or just a moment, the love and passion for fencing. The prestigious Giunti publishing house, which has embraced the FIS project, publishes this publication which in 180 pages retraces some of the most beautiful stages of this authentic celebration dedicated to the Under 14s and all the members of the great Italian fencing family, but also, more in general, extraordinarily significant moments in Italian sport and history. Yes, because recounting sixty years of GPG (born in 1963, “birthday” postponed to 2024 due to the cancellation of the 2020 edition due to the Covid emergency) means not only rewinding the tape to a pioneering time, with the great intuition of The then federal President Renzo Nostini to open competitive activity to children also means reliving incredible transformations of fencing and of our country. And there’s something for everyone. Some examples? The first electric foils and the opening first of the epee and then of the saber to girls, the revolutions of the competition formulas, the “transfers” on the Rome-Rimini-Riccione axis, if we want to stay only on the technical data. And then those “crossovers” between the Grand Prix Giovanissimi and some historical dates (from Aldo Moro to Pope John Paul II), the figure of Marta Russo who was champion on those platforms, the integration of which Italian fencing was the forerunner, leading to the GPG Paralympic athletes.
The book was commissioned by the Federal Council on the proposal of the Federal President Paolo Azzi, who signs the preface remembering with emotion having experienced the magic of this special competition as a participant, winner, loser, referee, parent, manager and finally top of the FIS, to leave a dutiful and necessary testimony to the great history that the Grand Prix Giovanissimi brings with it.
The texts, written by Dario Cioffi and Luca Magni, will lead readers to relive all the editions in a development of the long and prestigious roll of honor enriched with stories, anecdotes, interviews and many curiosities involving athletes (very champions or illustrious unknowns), parents, teachers, referees and all the other figures who are part of this splendid event in which the most authentic values affirmed by fencing are expressed. Also suggestive is the photographic collection collected from the historical archive of the FIS and from the shots of Augusto Bizzi and his team.
