Every 58 minutes in Italy a report is made for crimes against animals. Every day 25 criminal cases are opened, with around 13 investigated for crimes against animals within 24 hours, one every 110 minutes. Yet there is still someone who says “what an exaggeration, they are just beasts”. It is starting from this data that Francesca Petrucci, journalist and writer, addressed the topic of animal abuse in Italy with her book “Sono solo beasts” (Primamedia editore, p. 188, 15 euros) premiered at the Turin Book Fair. They spoke with the author Marco Well done (Enpa Turin) e Ciro Troiano (Lav National Zoomafia Observatory). The next presentation is scheduled in Pisa on May 25th (SMSBiblioteca, 5.30 pm).

The essay, written as a journalistic investigation, offers the reader multiple points of view, normative, ethological and even that of the welfare of animals that live (and die) in intensive farming.

“This book gives voice to experts in individual subjects. The topics covered constitute a valid tool for those who wish to have the most complete and multifaceted information possible”, writes Luigi Contu, director of the Ansa Agency, in the introduction to the volume.

Through data, analysis, but above all unpublished interviews with those who deal with this topic, the book provides an important contribution in the process of raising awareness in the direction of respect for animals and nature. A question of education (and knowledge) but also a duty of civility. Concrete commitment to our very survival on this planet.
