Sicily comes alive this week with a rich calendar of events cultural. Theater lovers will be able to enjoy engaging shows, while reading enthusiasts will have the opportunity to watch the reading theatricalised of some passages from Don Chisciotte. Between flower festivals, dance, music and theatre, you can enjoy a 360-degree cultural experience between Palermo, Catania, Messina and the surrounding areas. Conformazioni – festival of dance and contemporary languages
The eighth edition of “ConFormazioni”, the Palermo festival dedicated to dance and contemporary languages, returns to color the city’s spring from 19 to 28 April. Under the artistic guidance of Giuseppe Muscarello, the festival offers a rich and varied program, with shows, exhibitions, meetings and workshops that range between different artistic expressions, all from 19 to 28 April.
This year “ConFormazioni” is renewed and expanded. Beyond Palermo, the festival reaches three other Italian cities with “Conformazioni esperience”, bringing the beauty of contemporary dance into an even broader context. The 2024 edition also celebrates twenty years of Muxarte, the association founded by Muscarello in 2004.
Cervantes Institute Palermo – World Book Day
On April 24th, on the occasion of “World Health Day”. book and copyright”, the Instituto Cervantes organized a special event to celebrate one of the most iconic works of Spanish literature: Don Chiosciotte della Mancha by Miguel de Cerventes Saavedra.
The theatrical reading will be performed by the Argentine actress Monica Scapparone, who will interpret some key passages of the novel in both Spanish and Italian. The event will be held at 11 am at library central Sicilian region Alberto Bombace, in Corso Vittorio Emanuele 429.
The theme chosen for this event is “Artisans of Peace”, and the Hispanist Maria Caterina Ruta will introduce the reading path proposed by the Instituto Cervantes of Palermo. Don Quixote is a work that exalts literature in all its forms, analyzing and questioning the various genres.
“The Yalta Game”, blonde theater in Palermo
The theater review “Sicily of the scene”, promoted by the Biondo theater of Palermo, is preparing to conclude its second edition of an unmissable show: “The yalta game” by Brian Friel, translated by Stefano Moretti. The event will take place in the Strehler room from 25 to 27 April and promises intense emotions.
The show sees the talented Giulia Valenti and Stefano Moretti on stage, who not only play the main roles, but also direct. Tale is a short text written by Friel in 2001, inspired by Anton Chekhov’s story “The Lady with the Dog”. There history follows the protagonists Anna and Dimitri, both unhappy in their marriages, who meet during a holiday in Yalta and confide in each other betrayals and failures. A feeling arises between them, but they separate. However, the real theme of the story is not adultery, but the relationship between truth and fiction: Anna and Dimitri “play” at inventing the lives of others.
Musical and theatrical events at the municipal auditorium of Ficarra
The municipal auditorium of Ficarra is preparing to welcome a series of musical and theatrical events that promise to delight the public with a mix of tradition Sicilian and artistic talent. The first season of shows opened on April 14th with the show “When the moon sang, songs, dances and fairy tales of the Sicilian tradition”.
The program continues on Saturday 27 April with the dialect farce “Cu nesce..arrinesci” of the company between stage and reality, directed by Albino Rocco. A moment of comedy and fun that celebrates local culture.
The biggest month will be dedicated to music: on Friday 10th a trio of great 20th century mandolists, led by Nino Nobile, will perform together on Gervasi’s accordion and Mattia Franchina’s double bass. Saturday 25 May will be the turn of “The Marquis of Fish” by the Piccola bottega dell’arte company, directed by Silvano Luca.
The season will end on Sunday 23 June with the concert of the Duo Effe, composed of Finardi on mandolin and Filippini on classical guitar. Two musicians of European fame who will give the public a journey through the nuances of their instruments.
The flower festival in Acireale
From 25 April to 1 May, Acireale is preparing to welcome the tradition “Flower Festival“, an event that celebrates the arrival of spring with five days full of colours, scents and fun for the whole family. The streets and squares of the historic center are transformed into a real spectacle, with parades of flower-decorated floats and decorated cars that enchant visitors.
Street artists, tastings, music and much more enliven the streets of the town, creating a festive and engaging atmosphere.
The day of April 27 starts at 9.30 with flower-decorated floats on display in the historic circuit and the gathering of historic Fiat 500s decorated by “Amici di clacson” in Piazza Duomo. At 10am, street artists perform juggling, acrobatics and magic in Piazza Duomo and Corso Umberto.
At 5pm there will be an evocative parade of flowered floats while the puppet theater show in via Alessi will be held at 7pm and 9pm. The evening will culminate with the concert of “Le Vibrazioni” in Piazza Duomo at 9pm.
The April 28, the events will continue with the parades of the Misterbianco carnival and flowered floats at 5pm, followed by the puppet opera show at 7pm and 9pm at the puppet theatre.
The day will end with the Sicily folk orchestra with Mario Venuti and Kaballà in concert at 9.30 pm in Piazza Duomo, followed by the award ceremony of the flowered float competition at 11 pm.
The April 30th at 9pm in Piazza Duomo, the Baroque Spring Festival by Carnival Beat will be held, while May 1st will be dedicated to the grand finale with the concert from 12pm to midnight.
