The cancellation of the monologue of Antonio Scurati to What will be…on Rai 3, is not the first slip-up on Viale Mazzini. In recent months, Rai has ended up at the center of controversy, winning – one might say not by merit – the opening of websites and newspapers. From Roberto Saviano to Fedezpassing through Ghali And Dargen D’Amicothe precedents were different.
The Saviano case – Announced in July in the Fall 2023 offering, the Insider program, Roberto’s Face to Face with Crime Saviano, four episodes already recorded, ends up out of the schedule. The programme, a journey through criminal organisations, was banned for “corporate choice” and “not political choice”, explains Rai CEO Roberto Sergio at the time. But the writer doesn’t agree and rises up, speaking of a “clearly political decision” and calls into question pressure from Deputy Prime Minister Salvini. It is no mystery, in fact, that there is bad blood between the two. What triggered the last spark between Saviano and the Minister of Infrastructure, a few days before the cancellation of the programme, was a tweet from the writer on Carola Rackete’s candidacy for the European elections: a social clash which led the Northern League leader to threaten a lawsuit and the exponents of right of government to ask for Saviano’s removal from Viale Mazzini.
The Fedez case – Rather than a case, one might say ‘the’ Fedez cases. There has been no shortage of controversy linked to the singer and Rai over the years. The last one in October last year when the case linked to Belve broke out: Rai block your participation in the program Francesca Fagnani. The presenter herself reports it: the company “did not consider it appropriate”, explains the journalist, dissociating herself. The case then returns (Fedez was a guest on the program last April 9th ed.), but in the meantime the controversy mounts. Fedez is then the protagonist of the controversy over his speech at the Concertone on May 1st 2021. And, again, he is at the center of sparks for the freestyle with which at Sanremo 2023 he openly criticizes the minister Roccella on abortion and the deputy minister Bignami, of which he tears the photo showing him in the Nazi uniform.
Ghali and Dargen D’Amico – It’s always on stage of Ariston that this year, during the last Sanremo Festival, another one breaks out case. From the stage of the musical event one of the competing artists, Ghaliintervenes in support of Palestinian cause and asks “stop to the genocide“, so much so that it ended up in the sights of the Israeli ambassador to Italy. Nothing happens at the moment and Sanremo ends without too many hitches. But panic broke out in Rai: the next day, Sunday, in the living room of Mara Venierthe CEO of Rai, Roberto Sergio, issues a statement of closeness to the Israeli people and has it read live by both Venier and the evening news anchors. Not only that: Venier is also overwhelmed by criticism for the treatment reserved for Dargen D’Amico on the broadcast: the hostess interrupts the artist while he is talking about the issue of migrants and in an outburst the journalists who ask Ghali for a comment on the position of the ambassador of Israel.
