RENATO CURCIO IN FORMIA FOR HIS BOOK: IT IS CONTROVERSY ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Descriptive text here

Renato Curcio, one of the founders of the Red Brigades, arrives in Formia for the presentation of his “Supraimplicazion”. The presence sparked controversy on social media

Today, Saturday 20 April, at 5 pm, at the Piccolo Teatro Iqbal, the Koinè Cultural Association, within the Meeting with the Author Festival, hosts Renato Curcio. The former Birgatist presents “Overimplications, the interferences of cybernetic capitalism in the practices of everyday life”.

“The path through the Internet infrastructure proposed here – we read in the presentation of the event on the Facebook page – highlights the over-implications that weigh on our daily practices and the anthropological changes that they entail. In recent decades, the over-implications of the twentieth-century geopolitical system have been accompanied by the limitations and orientations of cybernetic capitalism. Which, with the implementation of Artificial Intelligence, and in the growing hybridization between humans and machines characterized by the reversal of the relationship between humans and the tools they use, leads us towards a socio-anthropological mutation as powerful as it is unknown in his destinies. A new disciplinary paradigm also derives from this: the task of automatically implementing the stimulation, surveillance, recording, evaluation of obedience and the possible reporting of the “non-reproductive” behavioral trajectories of the animal is transferred to machines equipped with Artificial Intelligence. existing” or in any case “not docilely or passively aligned” with the Authorities of various degrees”.

A certainly important and contemporary theme, completely supplanted by the presence of the author who, inevitably, can only refer to his past as a protagonist of the armed struggle in Italy. Curcio, already the author of several books, to stick to the facts of the news, founded – as Wikipedia recalls – together with his wife Margherita Cagol and Alberto Franceschini, the Metropolitan Political Collective “which would give rise, through the experience of the Proletarian Left , to the first nucleus of the Red Brigades, the main armed struggle group of the far left active in the Years of Lead”.

From a judicial point of view, Curcio’s story is summarized in the sentence of 28 years of imprisonment as he was considered the instigator of the murders of the militants of the Italian Social Movement of Padua, MSI Graziano Giralucci and Giuseppe Mazzola. Moral involvement in voluntary homicide: this is the crime for which Curcio was convicted for the double crime that occurred on 17 June 1974. Just under a month ago, however, Curcio was the recipient of the notice of conclusion of investigations relating to the kidnapping of the entrepreneur Vittorio Vallarino Ganciawhich occurred in June 1975, in Arzello di Acqui Terme (province of Alessandria), at the Spiotta farmhouse.

The entrepreneur Gancia was kidnapped and as part of that action a firefight arose between the Carabinieri and the Red Brigade members, resulting in the deaths of the Carabinieri Giovanni D’Alfonso and the Red Brigade member Mara Cagol. Carabinieri Umberto Rocca and Rosario Cattafi were injured. The investigations restarted in November 2021, after Bruno D’Alfonso, the victim’s son, presented a complaint consisting of new documents. After two years, the investigations, which involved the ROS of Turin and Rome, the RIS of Parma, and the DIA of Rome, as well as the Turin Prosecutor’s Office, were closed against important exponents of the then Red Brigades: Renato Curcio and Mario Moretti. Lauro Azzolini and Pierluigi Zuffada are also under investigation. Everyone risks being sent to trial.

Practically, a presence, that in Formia, that could not go unnoticed, so much so that the one who animated the debate on social media, as often happens to him, was the trade unionist and blogger Delio Fantasia, who published a rather direct post: “Saturday 20 April Renato Curcio will be in Formia to present his latest book. A glimmer of culture in a city that has chosen mediocrity as its reference model.”

Comments of all kinds and types followed. The commentators were divided between those in favor and those against, without any words of condemnation or absolution from a moral point of view, without leaving the more colorful forms of insults and some blunders. “I would also invite the relatives of the victims! He has served his sentence and has the right to speak as an expression of freedom but the past cannot and must not be forgotten!”, explains a user.

“An important presence! On the other hand, the city of Formia was home to an important operational center for Italian terrorism.” And again: “A criminal instigator of several murders who has never repented or dissociated himself. For me, an unrepentant terrorist intellectual still remains a terrorist, therefore a criminal.” “If culture exists, Renato Curcio must bring it, then we are at the end of civil civilization”.

Not just disapproval, quite the opposite. “You’ve stopped fucking spitting on the armed struggle for liberation from fascism and capitalist tyranny, Curcio has never killed anyone and is certainly not a murderer… keep your infamous fascist murderers, you’re just like them”. And I repeat: “The BR caused 83 victims in 20 years, the fascists’ armed wing of the state only needed one bomb to cause more.”

A ping pong between factions, broken only briefly by the comment of another user: “Mamma mia Delio Fantasia and what have you unleashed. Right-wing terrorists left-wing terrorists, insults here, insults there. We sanctify this, we demonize that other, even Jesus Christ you put in the middle…Are you going crazy?”.

A controversial topic which sparked the public debate only on social media (no comments were received from the sleepy politics of the southern Pontine area, without speaking from the representatives of culture, if ever there were any), always alive and well when we talk about a past, that of the struggle between blacks and reds – “Reds, blacks, in the end all the same. You deserve it Alberto Sordi”, said Nanni Moretti in “Ecce Bombo” -, which doesn’t help to understand. Missing for a while.

It should be noted, however, that when the nephew of the founder of the Casalesi clan, a few years ago, wanted to present Saturnia to Spigno the film by the wife of the bandit Renato Vallanzasca, the social debate was much more cautious. Everyone is careful – apart from a few white flies – not to use one word too many, so much so that the film, in the end, was presented in Gaeta (and then advertised several times on other communication channels including the Radio Padania linked to the then Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvinithat is, the same one who in theory had prohibited it), in defiance of a provision of the then Ministry of the Interior.

Different issues, no doubt. A movie there “Operazione Spartacus – La Casalese”, produced by “ROXYL MUSICS&FILM” by Angelo Bardellinoin which the message “neither with the State nor with the Camorra” was traced, here, today, a book by a former terrorist who, despite having critical attitudes, never dissociated himself from the Red Brigades, although he declared the end of the so-called armed struggle.

Reds, blacks, Camorra and anti-mafia. In Formia, the debate was useful, but only on social media.
