Free books after the show “I am Andromaca”

Free books at the end of the show to raise people’s awareness of reading. It is the idea of Sophie Lamour, organizer of cultural events in Genoa, who on Sunday 21 April at 8.30 pm will stage “Io sono Andromaca” at the Instabile theater in via Cecchi, a show produced by Genova Dreams Aps and curated by the Teatro Diacronico company . The play is inspired by the true story of Marquise Du Parc, one of the most famous actresses of Molière’s company in 17th century France.

When the curtain falls, spectators will be given copies of books on Ligurian theater by the Genoese publishing house Erga: “The charm of the word – The theater of prose in Liguria” by Riccardo Speciale and Renato Venturelli and “Garage Theatre: my stage, one show 40 years long” by Lorenzo Costa.

“I found Marquise’s story while reading – explains Sophie Lamour -. For this reason we want to underline the importance of reading and thanks to Erga we will be able to donate books to invite everyone to always discover new stories and points of view. Reading takes us back to times human, slow, and the habit of abandoning oneself to the pleasure of discovery”.

“I am Andromache” is based on the true story of Marquise Du Parc – pseudonym of Thérèse de Gorla – daughter of a street vendor of Italian origin, one of the most famous actresses of Molière’s company and lover of the poet Jean Racine. The play crosses a cross-section of 17th century life in France: from the splendor of Versailles to the hard life of the people and artists amidst intrigues, poisons, brawls and betrayals. A whirlwind of characters will alternate on stage that will lead Marquise towards her success but also, inevitably, towards her last act.

Regarding the donation of books, Sophie Lamour reflects on the need for culture, but also to return to a slower pace of life: “There is a great need to return to reading and its pace, slower than the hectic life of today, with the smartphone in our hands we always seem to have answers to everything, but instead we must rediscover the concession of not knowing and the pleasure of discovery and in-depth analysis, which takes its time. It is an introspective activity that allows for development of a critical conscience and a new look at ourselves”.

Playing the protagonists are Sophie Lamour, Alberto Cervelli, Barbara Castellano, Sabrina Fiaccavento, Denise Gorla, Lorena Scarsi, Deborah Carelli, Patrizia Mostacci, Alessandra Politi, Andrea Urbano and Stefano Vajarelli. The costumes of Marquise Du Parc and Molière are by the designer Giulia Danese. “We are a small company – says Lamour – but we think that with these books we will be able to contribute to making known the beauty and history of current theater in Genoa and Liguria. Networking in this sense is important to support creative projects”.
