“A fantasy story based on a true story”

The presentation of the book “Umbrian heroic poem: the battle of nations” will take place on Saturday 20 April at 11.30 am at the Cinema Monicelli in Narni. The author of the book is Valentino Filippi who for some years has decided to use “Valentino de’ Ponte Cardona” as his pseudonym. During the presentation of the book, the teaser advertisement for the complete project will be screened. “The ‘Umbrian Heroic Poem’ – we read in a statement – is based on the story of the third battle of Sentino, where a league of nations from central Italy gathered to form an army of revolt against the advance of imperial Rome. In 299 BC Rome conquered central Italy and the various cultures, including the Umbrian one, were incorporated and gradually forgotten. This fantasy story was constructed on the basis of this story Naharthi people, cradle of the civilization of the Terni basin and one of the oldest Italic peoples, so much so that they are remembered for having survived the rains of the great flood.

The events – continues the press release – are divided into a single story from which the stories of several characters unfold and intertwine: the Naharthi and their journey between the Umbrian clans, the haruspic priests of Torre Maggiore and their magical research, the kings and generals of the United Nations preparing their defense and war plans and the Roman army preparing for the attack and battle for the conquest of central Italy. Following the events that actually happened, we will travel to an Umbria forgotten over time between a culture that has now been lost and enchanted places that can still be visited. The author Valentino Filippi, known as Valentino de’ Ponte Cardona, is an independent researcher and explorer; he is a lover and passionate about archaeology, mysteries and wild nature. Graduated in forestry sciences in Rieti, since he was a child he had a deep love for nature, which he continued to develop over the years. While he oversaw the creation of the archaeological park of Ponte Cardona, he founded the cultural association ‘il Bosco di Cardona’, entering the world of culture, conservation and tourist redevelopment of the area.

Subsequently, he developed a movement for the redevelopment and reclamation of naturalistic areas reduced to landfills, ‘The echo of the woods’, involving associations, civic centres, institutions and private individuals in the territory of the province of Terni, especially in the municipality of Narni. In recent years he has created the documentary series ‘Mysterious Mountains’, a television series, broadcast on some regional television channels and on a YouTube channel. It deals with discovering myths and legends of the Terni basin by exploring what history has left to posterity and which now lives in a state of abandonment in the woods and territories of southern Umbria. Over time, Filippi has collaborated with various newspapers, writing articles regarding various types of situations.”
