Civita di Bagnoregio, in the province of Viterbo.

Harry Styles is one of the last owners in the Lazio village

Civita di Bagnoregioon the border between Lazio and Umbria, in the province of Viterbo, is nicknamed “the dying city” due to the progressive erosion of the hill on which it is located caused by earthquakes, landslides and floods, and is now a ghost town in the valley. Accessible by a steep walkway that rises to connect the mountains, the village connects to the mainland to preserve itself.

Built over 2,500 years ago by the Etruscans, the historic village is considered an architectural miracle. Suspended for years between life and death, the suspended pedestrian town in the air is governed by wind and erosion, and loses 7 centimeters of land every year.

At the top of a steep and picturesque hill, the British singer Harry Styles has suffered the charm of the village and its houses. He was during a trip to Civita di Bagnoregio, with Alessandro Michele, then artistic director of Gucci, that the singer has decided to buy a house right here. After two visits, and with the help of the stylist, the singer closed the deal and bought the Etruscan house. Recently restored, this family home with garden, set amongst historic cobbled streets, offers a panoramic view of the Valle dei Calanchi. This peaceful hillside oasis, owned by a local woman who used to open her doors to visitors, retains its old-world charm.

Because of its position, Civita remained isolated and then abandoned. Though some tourists and historians have flocked to the town for a time travel trip, its population is dwindling… And Harry Styles is one of the last 11 residents of the town to enjoy its old-world charm.
