Giorgio de Chirico, Giorgio Morandi, Emilio Vedova, Renato Guttuso, Fortunato Depero and Oskar Kokoschka: these are just some of the influential twentieth century painters whose paintings Mario Rimoldi, during the last century, collected with tireless dedication, impeccable taste and sensitivity that was ahead of its time. From 25 June to 6 October, the exhibition The Mario Rimoldi Museum: a fairy tale from Ampezzo. 1974-2024 brings together some of them, paying homage to the history of the exhibition venue – established fifty years ago in the splendid setting of the Dolomites of Cortina d’Ampezzo – and of the collector to whom it is named.A GREAT COLLECTION IN THE HEART OF THE DOLOMITESBorn in Cortina d’ Ampezzo, Mario Rimoldi passed away in 1972. Two years later, his wife Rosa Braun returned his artistic legacy to the local community, donating the collection and founding the museum of the same name. The exhibition enhances the original legacy, subsequently enriched with new donations: the the result of an entire life dedicated to the passion for art is thus left to posterity, recalling the compelling story of a visionary who, thanks to his passion, managed to understand the importance of those young “misunderstood” artists, who today we consider fundamental exponents of the history of art. THE MARIO RIMOLDI COLLECTION IN A CELEBRATIVE EXHIBITION Created in collaboration with the artist Paolo Barozzi, the archivist Ilaria Lancedelli and the art curator Giorgio Chinea Canale, the retrospective aims to celebrate fifty years since the foundation of the museum, “flooding” its three floors with a rich selection of two hundred works from Rimoldi’s original collection. In decades of patronage, the collector has in fact collected a large number of works, many of which are exhibited in the Scuola d’ Local art of which he was president, allowing young students to study surrounded by exceptional works and see the painters themselves at work. Thus a gathering of artists, critics, writers, poets and musicians was created around the collector, representing an interesting, new resource for Cortina that contributed to transforming the small mountain municipality into the nerve center for sport and tourism that it is today.[Immagine in apertura: Zoran Music, Cavalli che passano, 1951, olio su tela, 81,3×99,5 cm, Museo Mario Rimoldi, Cortina d’Ampezzo]
