The administration of Jesi, a municipality in the province of Ancona, has announced a design competition for the valorisation of the urban space of the Mercato delle Erbe, to be achieved through the inclusion of small-scale architectural devices to support daily living.
The project – with maximum expressive freedom – must be developed on one surface area of 80/100 m2 and will have to guarantee the carrying out of various activities, such as front office stations open to the public with PC points for citizens, meeting room for 20 people around a single table, back office and toilets and storage room.
The furnishing elements – light and easy to maintain – can be minimal or articulated, aimed at the correct organization of the internal space.
Specifically, the devices must be:
- modular and replicable, to facilitate assembly and transport operations, and modifiable over time depending on the needs that arise
- made with a construction process that makes them reversible
- flexible in spatial articulation, providing partitions and closures based on the use of modifiable, reversible and inspectable systems
- light in the construction system, optimizing the use of materials and manufacturing processes
- provide horizontal and vertical closure systems conceived as “environmental filter”, in close relationship with the external environment.
COMPETITION PROCEDURE
The competition procedure will decide a single winner chosen from the proposals presented. There will be two honorable mentions, which will receive a reimbursement of expenses.

Evaluation criteria
- Architectural quality. Originality of the proposed project and space-functional relationship with the host building | up to 30 points
- Better relationship between quality achieved and resources (in a general sense) used as shown in the metric calculation, cost-effectiveness of maintenance activities | up to 20 points
- Construction aspects. Consistency of the design choices undertaken with respect to the requirements required by the tender in terms of lightness, reversibility, flexibility, modularity, transferability of the proposed model, sustainability | up to 30 points
- Environmental and energy sustainability | up to 20 points
