On Thursday 9 May the Peano Foundation invites you at 8.00 pm on Corso Giolitti, on the corner of Via Bassignano for a convivial evening during which DIKATOMI, the new Living Sculpture created by Furkan Depeli, the Turkish artist who won the 25th prize, will be discovered and presented to the public. ° edition of the Sculpture Competition in 2021 when he was a student of the two-year course in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara.

The work, handmade in black Marquina marble, follows the project presented in the form of digital rendering on the occasion of the Competition and then selected among those arrived by a jury composed of Barbara Pasqua – journalist, Cristina Clerico – Councilor for Culture, City of Cuneo, Giacomo Doglio – cultural promoter, Ivana Mulatero – art critic and curator and Ezio Ingaramo – Vice President, Peano Foundation.

The sculptural project was chosen by the commission for its strong visual and conceptual impact. The then current existential crisis conditioned by the persistence of the effects of the virus is interpreted in a cathartic sense towards a supreme spirit of sharing and bonding capable of overcoming the contradictions, “dichotomies” and obstacles of life. A life experience that can begin to germinate again as alluded to by the two figures encapsulated in a geometric shape that summarizes a seed split in half.

The winner, at the end of the awards ceremony in November 2021, mentioned how his artistic production refers to key concepts of ancient Greek philosophy and in particular, in the case of “Dikatomi”, to the thought of Heraclitus, philosopher of “becoming” and to his concept of logos, a universal law to whose necessity all things are subject in their constant reversal of each into its opposite, and in which the dichotomies that characterize that specific historical period coexist.

Furkan Depeli’s victory once again brings the Carrara Academy to the top step of the podium which, over the course of the 24 previous editions, has already placed three Sculptures to Live in the city: “Terra” by Federica Malatesta (2000), “Riflessi” by Simonetta Baldini (2002) and “La città che sale” by Gaspare Marziano in 2014.

Dikatomi has three rounds of LED strips on the base connected to the twilight of the public lighting so it will “light up” in the evening with the street lamps of the street. Unlike other works placed in the city over the years, this is not a first work. In fact, the artist has already won numerous art awards and installed numerous works around the world. The unveiling and presentation event of the work was organized by the Peano Foundation with the collaboration of the Cuneo Centro neighborhood committee and the Nuovo Corso Giolitti Association and will see the participation of the artist. The event will be accompanied by an aperitif and music by Moussa Sanou.

The Scultura da Vivere Competition, which will reach its 28th edition in 2024, has always been organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Cuneo, which makes the public area available for the installation of the work, and thanks to the contribution of the Foundation CRC and CRT Foundation.
