Art and painting as research and in-depth analysis: at Sambuca, in the magical world of Marino Cassandro

SAMBUCA (BARBERINO TAVARNELLE) – That of Marino Cassandroa fifty-year-old resident of Sambuca, is something that goes beyond a passion.

A great lover of painting, for him painting is equivalent to knowing. In fact, art is a continuous search that pushes him to delve deeper and deeper.

“For me, painting is fundamental – Marino Cassandro explains – I need it to fully understand the dynamics of our mental composition”.

The artist, in fact, based his painting on the knowledge of the human being, on what he represents and on the usefulness that each of us has on this planet. A painting, therefore, that reflects man in all his globality.

Driven by an ever-fervent creativity, Cassandro thus decided to transform an old garage in Via Senese (in Sambuca) into a place of pure art.

“I worked in a small garage that didn’t allow me to continue painting – says Cassandro – The paintings ended up overlapping, so I found a larger space”.

So we went to visit it.

In the first room there are informal paintings, in which the liveliness and strength of color prevail.

These are works that first and foremost affect emotional states. The second room, however, hosts conceptual paintings, visualized and contemplated. In fact, before releasing emotions, these must be understood in our mind.

In the… world of Marino Cassandro

“All this arises from the observation of man – he explains further – who is made up of an unconscious part and a rational part. It is the first part that takes action, until logic gives it orders.”

Therefore, as long as instinct prevails, such fantasy interpretations arise. But for Cassandro, man must achieve his own awareness and self-control. It is therefore necessary that irrationality does not take over, but that man acts with conscience and knowledge. It is in this way that the artist, starting from his first paintings, came to understand, according to his vision, the cerebral part of us.

He does not have a favorite painting to which he declares himself particularly attached: “I am attached to everyone – he admits – Each painting, which is not divided from me, has contributed to who I am now and to carrying forward this knowledge of mine”.

His life teacher is nature, from which he obtains all the information for his works.

In each of the artist’s paintings we can also find circularity and the point.

“The point is everything for me – concludes the artist – Each of us is a small microcosm in itself which however belongs to a larger nucleus”.

For Marino Cassandro nothing is divided, each of us is not an end in itself, but adheres to a much broader totality.

A man therefore who does not like surfaces and objective truths, but who likes to broaden his view and seek the uniqueness of and in things.
