The car of the Russian patriarch, Kirill, was involved in an accident with a Volvo XC60 in central Moscow. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church was not on board the car, but the images will not make him or the Russian government happy. The Aurus Senat is one of the Russian presidential vehicles and so does part of President Vladimir Putin’s fleet. The armored car weighs around six tons, yet it was the much smaller and lighter XC60 that prevailed, at least in appearance.

Images of the accident show the Volvo XC60 speeding through a T-junction, apparently not slowing down, as the Senat arrives and crashes into the left side of the Swedish SUV. What is surprising, however, is that a six-ton armored car, built to defend none other than Russian President Putin, got damaged so badly due to a collision with a fairly common car. Aware of the seriousness of the incident, some Russian agents tried to cover the car to hide it from the cameras, but the images had already leaked. According to reports, the crash would have caused one injured on board the Senat, who however refused hospitalization. No official comments have yet been released from the Kremlin, but certainly neither the Russian patriarch nor Putin will be happy to have such a fragile car in their fleet.
