When adoption events are organized in the United States, each shelter decides to bring some successful dogs, such as puppies, small dogs, but also elderly four-legged dogs who have not been able to find a family for a long time. And so did the staff of Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) and among the most “difficult” cases was that of Baby Girl, a female Pit Bull dog who had been waiting for her moment the longest.

She entered the kennel for the first time in February 2024, after a respectable person noticed her in a dangerous situation: “That person saw a shy dog trying to cross a busy motorway – wrote Ocas on Facebook – . They managed to stop the dog and get it into the car, perhaps saving its life.”

After some reassuring pats on the head, Baby Girl let the team give her a thorough check-up which revealed that she is a perfectly healthy 9-year-old dog: “She is sweet and kind to people and has shared her space with others dogs. We know nothing about her past life or how long she was a stray: she deserves better than to spend her elderly years in our shelters.”

While waiting to find her a forever home, a volunteer, Su Morrison, fell in love with Baby Girl and took her into foster care: “Having Baby in our house… it’s a pleasure – says the volunteer -. Longer remains, the more we realize what a real jokester she is. She’s a really happy little girl.”
Weeks turned into months and Baby Girl still couldn’t find a permanent family, making her one of Ocas’ longest-serving residents (albeit in foster care). And so they decided to take her to the adoption event in May, hoping that one of the thousands of visitors would bring her home.

At the adoption event, however, everyone walked past Baby Girl without a second thought. As seen in a video published by Ocas, the depressed dog watched from her kennel as visitors passed by without even giving her a glance or a kind gesture. By the end of the weekend, 58 Ocas residents had been adopted. Sadly, Baby Girl wasn’t one of them.

The dog returned to her foster home feeling defeated and hopeless about her future. She then received the perfect adoption application: the volunteer officially decided to keep her forever. Now, the sweet little girl spends her days going on walks or car rides with her favorite new humans, and neither party would want it any other way: “Another foster failure, another happy dog,” Morrison wrote humorously that what was supposed to be a temporary home has become his forever home.
