A python swallowed a woman whole. The body was found inside the stomach.
It happened in central Indonesia.
The husband of 45-year-old Farida and the residents of the village of Kalempang (in the province of South Sulawesi) recovered her inside the reticulated python, a reptile of about five meters. The woman, a mother of four children, had disappeared on Thursday evening and had not returned home, triggering the search, explained the village head Suardi Rosi.
Her husband «found her personal effects… which made him suspicious. The villagers then searched the area. They soon spotted a python with a big belly,” Suardi added. “They then decided to open the python’s stomach.” Farida was found still fully clothed inside the snake.
Similar incidents are considered extremely rare, but several people have died in Indonesia in recent years after being swallowed whole by pythons.
Last year, residents in the Tinanggea district of Southeast Sulawesi killed an eight-meter python, which was found eating a farmer in a village. In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead inside a seven-meter python in the city of Muna, Southeast Sulawesi. And the previous year, a farmer in West Sulawesi went missing: it was later discovered that he had been eaten alive by a four-meter python on an oil palm plantation.
