On the coldest day of the year, January 18, she was found by a passer-by on the side of a London road: a very small girlwrapped in a towel, inside a plastic bag. She had probably been born just an hour earlier. The doctors had nicknamed her Elsa, like the protagonist of the film Frozen.
Today she is almost six months old, she has been placed in foster care and is making great progress, but a fact about his past emerges now thanks to the authorization of the court of the British capital: Elsa is the sister of two other children, a boy and a girl, abandoned like her immediately after giving birth in the same neighbourhood, in Newham, in the east of London. Three newborns left, some on a bench, some near a park, some on a sidewalk over seven years by the same parents.
For Judge Carol Atkinson it is a case “of great public interest” and that is why she allowed some details to be made known. “The abandonment of a newborn in this country is a very, very unusual event,” she explained. The fact that in a few years three were left in the same neighborhood and that all three have the same parents, according to the DNA test, “is a fact of enormous interest in today’s society”.
The investigations are now focused on the identity of the parents and the mother’s health status. The children are fine: the two older ones, found respectively on 16 September 2017 and 31 January 2019, were adopted. One day they will discover that they have brothers and sisters.
The Metropolitan Police has launched an appeal for anyone with information to come forward. A woman, presumably her mother, was spotted near where Elsa was found around 8.45pm. Half an hour later the little girl was discovered, cold but alive despite the temperature of -4 degrees.
