While the Court of The Hague orders Israel to stop bombing Rafah, in the north of Gaza Strip the attacks continue. In an audio testimony, a staff operator from Oxfam in Gaza, speaks of “unstoppable bombing” in the northern areas of Jabalia and Beit Lahia. “The area is completely devastated. Not a single house was left standing. There are no places to take refuge because all the schools and shelters are destroyed.” Even access to basic necessities is very difficult. “We can only rely on legumes and canned food.”

The decision of the International Court of Justice was welcomed by the NGO Oxfam, which defined it as “un crucial intervention for stop the military assault of Israel in Rafahwhich displaced more than 800,000 people, and how an affirmation of the right to life of the Palestinian people.” All states “have the legal and moral responsibility to ensure that Israel respects this order, and that the hundreds of thousands of people taking refuge in Rafah are protected. The states that are arming the Israeli offensive they are now defying the ruling of the International Court of Justice and are complicit in every war crime committed in Gaza.”

This story is part of a series of testimonies Voices from Gaza’ collected by Oxfam operators and managers in Gaza that ilfattoquotidiano.it has decided to publish. The goal is to have a first-person account from civilians in Gaza, those who are paying the highest price for the conflict.

THE PETITION – Oxfam has launched a signature collection (you can join here) for “stop all arms transfers, components and ammunition used to fuel the crisis in Gaza”. An appeal addressed to governments not to be “accomplices to the continuous violations of international lawfulfilling their legal obligations and ensuring a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible.”
