Brawl between deputies in the Georgian parliament

A fight broke out in the Georgian parliament while parliamentarians discussed the controversial ‘Russian law’. The bill provides that media, non-governmental organizations and other non-profit organizations must register as «pursuing the interests of a foreign power» if they receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad. Opposition calls it ‘Russian law’ as Moscow uses similar legislation to repress independent media, non-governmental organizations and activists critical of the Kremlin
Ruling Georgian Dream party MP Dimitry Samkharadze was seen charging towards Levan Khabeishvili, chairman of the main opposition United National Movement party, after Khabeishvili accused him of organizing a mob to beat opposition supporters.
In recent days several protesters and opposition members were beaten. The opposition has linked the incidents to the mass protests that have shaken the country of 3.7 million inhabitants of the South Caucasus for weeks to demonstrate against the law being considered by Parliament. The final vote on the text is expected today, in the third and final reading.
