A life at the service of the weakest: orthopedist Silvio Galvagno dies

In the introduction to his book «Stories of war and injustice», Silvio Galvagno he wrote: «I realize that Africa is a melting pot of rare and precious pearls for life: the blood diamonds of Sierra Leone or the oil of Sudan or the gold of Congo are not the true gems of Africa. To discover them you must have the humility to look for the most insignificant people.” Doctor and orthopedist from Manta, Galvagno had dedicated a good part of his life to humanitarian missions in the Black Continent.

He died this morning (Saturday 11 May) at the age of 70. He had been struggling with a debilitating disease for several years. Galvagno he spent his life serving the weakest: in Italy, in his Manta area and in the Saluzzo area, as well as in Kenya, especially in the community of Sololowhich over the years has started a fruitful collaboration with the Diocese of Saluzzo, but also in Sudan and Afghanistan.

He leaves behind his doctor wife Maria Teresa Caselle, his children Simone, Raul, Antonio, Daniela, Maria, Paolo and Samuele.
