The touching story of Tião, the dog who has been waiting on the boat for a month for the fisherman who is no longer there

The dog Tião never leaves the boat. He always remains there, with his head bowed and sad eyes looking around. He’s been like this for a month, ever since his human companion, the person who took care of him, disappeared. The man, a fisherman, is in fact dead but Tião doesn’t know it and waits for him.

This story is told by Rodrigo Gonçalves who on his Instagram profile (@rodrigo_de_gyn) published a short film where we see that caramel-coloured dog, motionless on a boat pulled up on the banks of the Araguia river, a watercourse that bathes the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso, Tocantins and Pará, in Brazil.

Tião was a stray dog ​​but he had made a family with that man. Unfortunately one day, on a normal day like any other, the fisherman went out on the river but never returned. And the dog remained on the shore, waiting for him: “He doesn’t get out of the boat, it’s very complicated. We’re trying, it’s a sad story. He doesn’t leave,” a resident of the region says in the video.

There are many comments on this video, many of which underline the importance of the dog being able to see the body of his human friend: “If the animal does not see the owner’s body, it will wait for it forever” writes a user. While another: “The animal understands that the owner is dead when it sees him, but does not understand when he leaves and never comes back.” Many hope that someone will take care of him and that the love of a new friend and time can heal his wounds.
