Ukraine, EU Convention on Human Rights suspended

It is often said that in times of war, anything goes. It’s a shame that things aren’t exactly like that because there are rules that every country should comply with, in order to avoid international condemnations and sanctions, as demonstrated by the fact that Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskywell aware of the risk, has announced the decision to free itself, albeit temporarily, from the obligations established by the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

A decision which, as Kiev government sources explain to the newspaper RBC-Ukrainewas made necessary to be able to fully apply martial law on its national territory.

Ukraine leaves everyone stunned

This is a curious explanation and one that holds water on all sides because this institute was not launched recently but has been active since February 24, 2022, the day on which the Russian offensive began.

That of the newspaper, contrary to what many are trying to claim, is not a journalistic invention because, to accompany the article, the document sent to the Council of Europe was also published. A text, he writes RBC-Ukrainewhich states that Kiev’s military leadership has “the right to limit the freedom of movement of citizens, to inspect things and even to forcibly expropriate property for the needs of the state.”

And again: “Introduce a curfew, set a special mode of entry and exit (from the country, ed.), introduce a ban on peaceful meetings and demonstrations.”
