What if we told you that Santorini is located in China? No, this is not a serious geographical error or even a dream, but a Chinese village that imitated the iconic Greek island. The Santorini Dali Resort, in the southern province of Yunnan, has faithfully reproduced all the typical characteristics of Santorini: from the white houses with blue roofs to the crystalline color of the sea. The place, thanks to some videos on TikTok, has become a real social phenomenon.
Fake Santorini
What is now known as “Finta or Fake Santorini” extends for around 14 square km (the Greek island is instead around 76 square km) and overlooks Lake Erhai whose crystalline color aims to imitate the atmosphere of the Aegean Sea. At the resort you can get the full experience with houses perched on top of the cliffs and Greek-style restaurants. According to what The Sun reports, the cost to create this place was around 1 billion pounds and the choice to imitate Santorini was not random: apparently it is one of the most loved locations by Chinese couples. Dali has thus become a popular tourist location, especially for those who cannot afford a trip to Greece.
