Russia presses and advances, Ukraine struggles to defend the eastern front in particular in the critical phase of the war. It is General Oleksandr Syrsky, commander of Kiev’s armed forces, who photographs an increasingly complex situation in the conflict.

Syrsky’s analysis
The situation at the front has ”worsened” for Ukrainian troops, while the Russian armed forces are achieving ”tactical successes” in various areas, says Syrsky, explaining that Russia is ”attacking along the entire front line in continuously and successfully”.
In the east of the country the picture appears particularly complicated. The Ukrainian army retreated west of Berdychiv, Semenivka and Novomykhailivka. Kiev’s forces are also in difficulty along the Pokrovsky and Kurakhiv routes. Russia is trying to develop an offensive west of Avdiyivka and Maryinka. “Defense Forces units, saving the lives of our soldiers, moved to new positions in the west of Berdychiv, Semenivka and Novomykhailivka,” Sirskyi said. In the Kramatorsk direction, the hottest spots are Ivanivske and Khasiv Yar, while the Moscow units are trying to recapture Klishchiivka.
There is also fighting along the southern front. “In the direction of Kherson, our units managed to advance to the Veletenskyi area and establish control over the island of Nestryga. The enemy continues to shell the border of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions. There are no signs of preparations for a offensive from the North. At the same time, we are monitoring the increase in the number and regrouping of enemy troops in the direction of Kharkiv,” Syrsky’s account.
