A 21-year-old girl ended up in intensive care due to a severe allergic reaction after drinking a coffee contaminated by insects at Son Sant Joan airport in Palma de Mallorca: the young woman had purchased it from a vending machine. The facts have been reported to the Spanish Police who are now investigating for crimes against public health and negligent injury.

The incident occurred on Monday around half past ten. The young woman works for an airline and, together with other colleagues, she approached a machine to get a coffee. According to witnesses, as soon as she ingested the liquid, she felt a strange taste and, searching the glass with the spoon, she discovered that there were several insects. Shortly thereafter she suffered one anaphylactic shock. Her face began to swell and she had difficulty breathing. She was immediately treated by the airport health services who administered adrenaline and other drugs to stabilize her. After that surgery she was transferred to a clinic in Palma where she was hospitalized in the intensive care unit until this morning. The victim, in addition to respiratory problems, has several swellings on much of her skin. The complaint, presented by the family together with the lawyer Antonio Martínez Quereda, warns of a possible risk to public health due to the presence of insects in the car and the poor maintenance of the structures. Palma airport has decided to open an investigation after a 21-year-old girl suffered severe poisoning after consuming coffee from an airport vending machine which turned out to be contaminated with insects.
