New British military aid package for Ukraine

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak traveled to Poland today to announce a massive increase in UK military support to Ukraine, including £500 million in additional military funding and the largest delivery to date of weapons systems and equipment.

On this occasion the British Prime Minister met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss deepening relations between the United Kingdom and Poland, and the two leaders held talks with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Warsaw on European security and support to Ukraine. Following the meeting with Prime Minister Tusk, Prime Minister Sunak traveled to Germany to meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.

The additional £500 million funding announced today – bringing up to £3 billion in UK military aid for Ukraine this financial year – will be used to rapidly deliver urgently needed munitions, air defence, drones and technical support. The drones will be purchased in the UK and the funds will support an increase in national defense supply chains.

The Ministry of Defense in London will also send the UK’s largest-ever package of equipment from February 2022, designed to help repel the Russian invasion by land, sea and air which will include:

  • 60 vessels including offshore raiding speedboats, rigid raiding and diving boats, as well as naval guns.
  • More than 1,600 attack and air defense missiles, as well as additional long-range precision-guided Storm Shadow missiles.
  • More than 400 vehicles, including 160 “Husky” protected mobility vehicles, 162 armored vehicles and 78 off-road vehicles.
  • Nearly 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
