North Korea has launched at least “one unidentified ballistic missile” towards the Sea of Japan. This is what the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff Command reports.
This is the latest in a recent series of tests carried out by Pyongyang. The Seoul military, in a statement, did not provide details on the operation as “the analysis is currently underway”.
Today’s launch, however, is the first launch by the North since it tested a new intermediate-range ballistic carrier equipped with a hypersonic warhead. The North has maintained an accelerated pace of weapons testing in recent months as it continues to expand its military capabilities amid a negotiating and diplomatic stalemate with the United States and South Korea.
Pyongyang announced on Saturday that the previous day it had tested a “large” cruise missile warhead and another new anti-aircraft one on the country’s west coast, towards the Yellow Sea.
