The West would be one step away fromsend troops in Ukraine. The Hungarian prime minister is convinced of this Viktor Orbanwho on Facebook highlighted how the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev “it’s not our war”. The leader of Budapest also added that in Europe you can breathe “awarlike atmosphere” and that the Union is close to being dragged into the abyss, because Brussels is “playing with fire and making God angry”.

The logic of war dominates politics. I see preparations for war by everyone, everywhere. The NATO Secretary General has said that he wants to establish an Alliance mission in Ukraine. European leaders are already involved in a war, they see this war as their war and they are conducting it as such,” Oran said in an interview with the Hungarian news site Index. “At first it was just about sending helmets, then it was about sanctions, but not about energy, of course. After that it was a matter of sending weapons: first firearms, then tanks, planes, financial aid amounting to over tens of billions of euros, and now about 100 billion of euros these weapons do not improve the situation, which, on the contrary, is getting worse”.

According to the prime minister’s forecast, the next step will be to send troops to the country invaded by Kremlin troops. This is a possibility which, as underlined several times by Russian officials, would mark the beginning of the direct conflict between the Federation and the US-led bloc. “We have to fight for peaceat home, in Brussels, Washington, the United Nations and NATO”, added Orban. “We Hungarians know what war is like. We’ve been involved enough times. We have to stay out of it. This is not our war. We don’t want it and we don’t want Hungary to go back to being the toy of the great powers”.

The hypothesis of sending NATO soldiers to Ukraine was raised for the first time at the end of February by French President Emmanuel Macron, convinced that in the near future ground operations will be needed to contain the advance of Vladimir Putin’s troops. However, his words clashed with the united opposition of the vast majority of Alliance countries, Italy and Germany in the lead, who underlined that the deployment of men in Kiev is not in the plans.

The only nation that did not utter a flat refusal was the Polandwhich however postponed the discussion to an unspecified future.
