Censorship, Italo Bocchino infuriates Rula Jebreal: “From the penthouse in New York…”

On the day of the controversy over Antonio Scurati’s monologue which was missed in Serena Bortone’s Chesarà broadcast, Rula Jebreal is a guest on Accordi & Disaccordi. The Palestinian journalist with Israeli and Italian citizenship in the program hosted on Il Nove by Luca Sommi and Marco Travaglio talks about the attempt, in her opinion, at censorship when she was hosted at the Sanremo Festival, and about the lawsuit suffered by Giorgia Meloni for a tweet from the journalist on the affairs of the father of the current prime minister, at the time only leader of FdI.

Italo Bocchino recalls that Giorgia Meloni as Prime Minister never sued anyone, and Jebreal incredibly protests: “It’s not true, she sued me! For a tweet!”. The presenter Sommi himself is forced to underline that any legal action taken by Meloni precedes her government role. The former parliamentarian recalls the case of Luciano Canfora, who had defined Meloni as a “neo-Nazi at heart” and was sued for this phrase: “It’s right, he must be sentenced”, says Bocchino. “Jebreal pontificates on authoritarian drift in Italy from the attic of New York…”. “No, I’m on CBS, not in the attic in New York, we don’t say bullshit”, blurts out the journalist who claims that in the USA “freedom of the press is guaranteed”, evidently unlike in Italy.

“To say that in Italy there is an authoritarian drift is nonsense – replies the former centre-right parliamentarian – in Italy there is total freedom of the press, just think that Meloni is ridiculed every day in most newspapers and talk shows show”.
