The CEO of Helldivers 2 seems to have lost hope: «I’m waiting for the sun to come back»

The decision to have made PSN mandatory also for PC gamers Helldivers 2 will probably be remembered as one of the most unpopular choices of all time: despite the controversy and the consequent review bombing of users, Sony doesn’t seem to have any intention of turning around on the matter.

With a sensational gesture, the house of PlayStation has in fact decided to remove it Helldivers 2 from sale in over 100 countries: all those areas where it is not legally possible to create an account on PSN.

Despite the hopes of the Arrowhead team, Sony’s decision seems clear and adamant: To continue playing you will need to connect a PlayStation Network account.

Steam is already proceeding with refunds for all users affected by this highly questionable decision, but in light of the latest developments now even the authors of Helldivers 2 they seem to have lost hope.

The CEO and creative director of the service game (you can find the PS5 edition on Amazon) has in fact published a new post on his profile

«Waking up with yesterday’s sun, replaced by a sad drizzle and shivering winds, it made me reflect on how I spent my time in those rare moments when everything was perfect.

Yet, rain is essential for growth and is what turns spring into summer. I just have to wait for the sun to come back».

Given the timing of this comment a few hours after Sony’s choice, it’s not hard to read between the lines and understand how much the author of Helldivers 2 was annoyed by the affair and, obviously, saddened by the consequent and inevitable revolt of the users.

Fueling this sense of resignation about a future that appears inevitably linked to PSN accounts, in response to a fan who asked him what to do to be able to play without this requirement, finding himself in a country where it is not possible to create an account, the CEO responded with a single eloquent comment:

“I do not know”.

In short, if before Arrowhead had at least tried to fuel the hopes of the fans by encouraging the protest, now this change of mood seems to suggest, as we feared, that there won’t be any kind of about-face.

And, as the CEO himself underlines, we will just have to wait for better times when the users’ anger has subsided. Although in all likelihood the community of Helldivers 2 it will never be the same again.
