Sara was saved with an emergency operation

The visit from dentist it goes wrong. The anesthesia needle for little Sara, who had to treat a cavity, disappears into her mouth. The 4-year-old girl is hospitalized and the next day she undergoes emergency surgery. The doctors’ communication to her parents is alarming: “The needle has reached the brain, immediate surgery is needed.” It happened in Barcelona. Sara was operated on at the San Joan de Déu hospital and saved by the team of medical specialists, who despite 30 years of experience released the tension at the end of the operation with long applause, reports La Vanguardia.

The accident at the dentist

Montse, Sara’s mother, had taken her daughter to the dentist to treat a fairly deep cavity that required anesthetizing the area. But when the dentist went to remove the syringe, he noticed that the needle was missing. Or rather, it was stuck in the lower part of the right jaw. So, they tried to extract it, but every time they touched it it went deeper and deeper into the jaw, until it disappeared. The little girl was hospitalized and after the tests it was clear that an operation would be needed. The operation lasted between four and five hours and was attended by 22 professionals from different specialties (neurosurgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, anesthetists, radiologists…) who gathered in an operating room where they used neuronavigation. The operation was successful, little Sara is safe and sound.
