Draghi to the European Commission? Verderami: here’s how things are

Number one of NATO, president of the European Council and now president of the European Commission. There have been many rumors circulating in recent months about Mario Draghi, who has always silenced the rumors with a joke: “I don’t know why they always have to find me a place away from Italy”. But how is the former prime minister taking all this chatter? This was revealed by Francesco Verderami in Corriere della Sera, in an article in which he also tries to clarify the future: “It is not clear whether ‘Supermario’ is more amused or annoyed by these noises, which tell of political plots and contacts between chancelleries to bring him to the top of the Union government in place of Ursula von der Leyen. If someone speaks they are not necessarily thinking of running for something. And for Draghi to be a candidate, an agreement would be needed between the twenty-seven countries of the Union and a preliminary preparatory operation of which, according to very authoritative sources, ‘Supermario’ would not be aware”. And in the meantime, while background information and rumors about Draghi continue in Europe, we await the outcome of the June elections to understand whether von der Leyen will really lead the EU government once again.
