After criticizing the Brazilian Supreme Court judge, Alexandre de Moraes, the South African billionaire Elon Musk also decided to attack the progressive president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. «How did Alexandre become the dictator of Brazil? He has Lula on a leash,” the Tesla boss wrote about X, which he owns. In another post, in response to a publication by conservative MP Marcelo Van Hattem, Musk stated that it was Moraes “who let Lula out of prison” and for this reason “the president does not take action against him”.
In November 2019, Lula left Curitiba prison, where he was serving a sentence for corruption, after a Supreme Court decision that changed its jurisprudence regarding the possibility of arresting a defendant before all phases of the trial had been concluded. MPs linked to the right-wing former president, Jair Bolsonaro, are meanwhile considering the possibility of presenting an impeachment request against Moraes to the Chamber of Deputies, after the latter opened an investigation against Musk.
