Ravenna – Big blow for Essence Hotels Fano who deservedly conquered the Pala De Andrè in Ravenna and took home two precious points for the ranking.
The performance of the Virtussini was vigorous, gritty and tactically perfect, in the presence of a Ravenna second in the standings and unbeaten within friendly walls.
Fano approaches the match well in the first set: 1-5, 8-13 with a very effective block-defense. Zlatanov woke up his team and they scored at 15, but in the final with Rizzi serving, both Merlo and Fornal raged in attack, giving the guests the lead.
Essence Hotels are in the matchday and they also show it in the second half (13-16), but in the end a wild Zlatanov drags his team to 1-1.
Consar grows but Fano resists: in the third set the Ravenna players increase their pace and lead 2 to 1.
Fano has the great ability not to give up and the fourth set is a point-to-point challenge. At 18-18 Fornal, Tonkonoh and an elusive Merlo create the break (21-24). Consar doesn’t give up and grabs the tie at 24-24 and in the final an ace from Ricci makes the thirty fans who came from Fano rejoice.
In the tie break the Virtussini dominate going into the changeover ahead 8-5. The Fano team then took the lead to 12-8, with Tonkonoh unleashed on the serve. Consar tries to recover but in the final Fornal closes the score.
