Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 finally reveals Dr. Kay’s plan and why she needs Eleven (SPOILERS)

Doctor Kay is not a friendly character and she made it clear right from the start, but she is in Volume 2 of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things that his was revealed sneaky plan. As shown in the last episode of Volume 1, Kay kidnapped Kali, who like Eleven is the result of the experiments conducted by Doctor Brenner, but only in Volume 2 did patient 008 share precious information with her sister, revealing to her why Kay is on their trail and absolutely wants to get her hands on Eleven.

Even though Vecna is the main antagonist of Stranger ThingsDr. Kay is no exception as she is carrying out an extremely dangerous project that Eleven and Kali know very well. Once she escaped the military base, Kali told Eleven about Kay’s true intentions. He kidnapped her, killing her friends, and dragged her into the Upside Down to draw constant amounts of blood from her. At a certain point the girl found a way to escape, but she didn’t go far enough to discover the real intentions of Kay and that military base.

During her brief escape, Kali came across numerous pregnant women, prisoners like her on that military base and to whom her blood was administered. According to Kali, the doctor’s experiment was a failure because all those women seemed to be in critical conditions, but what was even more frightening was the nature of the project itself: it seems that Kay had Dr. Brenner’s project restartedcreated to replicate Henry’s abilities with new subjects. Like Kay, Brenner administered Henry’s blood to pregnant women, in the hope that the children would then be born with his own powers and this is what happened to children like Kali and Eleven. This is why Dr. Kay wants to capture Eleven, because she is the only one in her program with powers on the same level as Henry’s. And precisely because she is so precious, Eleven remains a priority in Kay’s eyes; this would explain why, despite having Kali as a prisoner, the doctor never stopped looking for her.

These revelations make the Eleven’s future even more critical. Kali is convinced that the only solution for both is to disappear forever, so as to interrupt that dangerous cycle. Eleven, however, wants to stop Vecna at all costs and may not be ready for such a great sacrifice. The last shot of the last episode of Volume 2, however, suggests that Eleven and Kali are on the same page. What will happen in Volume 3? Will Eleven sacrifice herself following Kali’s suggestion or will she find another way?
