The first season of Heated Rivalry – coming soon to Italy too – was a huge success. Fans are already looking forward to seeing the second season which, as stated by the creator Jacob Tierney in a recent interview, the sequel will follow The Long Game said Rachel Reid. My what will happen next season? Here are some spoilers and curiosities.
Heated Rivalry, Jacob Tierney talks about the second season
The first season ended with the sixth episode in which Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams, Joker: Folie à Deux), after being discovered by his father, he decides to come out to his parents and also reveals that he is in love with his hockey rival, Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie, A Christmas and my way). Parents ultimately understand and accept everything. The series ends with the two boys walking off together into the sunset, lighter for having revealed their truth and with the promise of seeing each other more and more.
Ma what will happen in the second season? Jacob Tierney, who is already working on the new episodes, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporterrevealed that the second season will be inspired by and follow the sequel The Long Game on Rachel Reid:
That’s all I wanted to say, that they can finally be in love. I wanted to show the simplicity of indulging. The first season followed Rachel Reid’s original material quite faithfully, often using dialogue taken directly from the book. The second season will be about the sequel, The Long Game. But I can’t go into details. It is possible that other authors will come to help me. I don’t know yet. We will see what the additional requests will be, especially at a logistical level.
In an interview with Varietyinstead, he added some curiosities about the new season:
There will be a lot of new characters, which will be really fun to introduce. However, I believe that the next season will have a different tone, because the book is more concentrated: the story takes place in a shorter period of time. There will be a greater sense of familiarity with the Ottawa team Ilya will play for, and we will get to know Hayden and Jackie better. There will also be more space for Yuna and David. I hope what happens in every good second season happens: enriching what the audience already knows, delving into how those narrative threads were born and then pulling them, really getting to the heart of the story. Also, I can’t wait to show Ilya in therapy. This is probably a very positive thing for him. I know that, for me, my therapist has been essential in getting through the last few months.
