Almost two million spectators (1,961,000 for a share of 22.4%, to be precise) and public approval despite some criticism from the eternally dissatisfied: it already seems like a success “European Nights”the RAI 1 talk show broadcast every day, in the late evening, after the last match of the day of Euro2024 but in addition to the debates in the studio, the live interviews and the comments of the qualified guests, there are also striking digs that are often the hosts launch, with Marco Mazzocchi particularly wild.

Euro 2024, RAI: the first two episodes of European Nights

“European Nights” it started the day before yesterday, Friday 14 June and yesterday’s second episode followed the Italy’s victory (followed by 10.5 million viewers with 55% share). Already at the start we understood that it would be a crackling episode. The experts were ready to comment on the match, when Paola Ferrari opened the broadcast in a joking way, rejoicing for the victory of the Azzurri but almost annoyed at having to agree with Mazzocchi, who the day before had already predicted the victory of the national team.

Euro 2024, European Nights: Mazzocchi’s curtain call

During the second part of the broadcast, Marco Mazzocchi made a joke about his young colleague Giusy Meloni. While the social media employee was introducing her space: “Do you know now where I’m taking you…?” The host added: “At dinner!”. Embarrassment in the studio but Paola Ferrari intervened immediately, assigning a “yellow card” to the host. Ferrari then praised Giusy Meloni for her work at Domenica Sportiva: “I would like to say something briefly. Giusy did a year of Domenica Sportiva, very well, with great success, seriously, in which she has never been put in complex situations.”

And Meloni in the frame, while smiling, says in a low voice: “Except now…” Ferrari continued by addressing Mazzocchi: “Now it’s there in front of you, we’re only at the second episode and I would already make a proposal to orient the table differently.” Mazzocchi responded: “No, but I wouldn’t want the wrong message to get across” and laughingly adds: “I understand the time, but anyway…”.

European Nights: RAI journalist kicked out of the Fan Zone

Moments of humor then when the RaiSport correspondent in Dortmund, Umberto Martini, he said he was ‘kicked out’ from a club on the Spree shortly before the live connection, together with the Italian fans present. But then instead of asking for comments on the match that had just finished he only dwelt on asking what they were doing there in Germany, how long they had lived away from Italy and what work they did. An episode that caused moments of embarrassment during the broadcast, with Mazzocchi who (shown while dejectedly widening his arms dramatically to the correspondent’s not very “football” questions) joked about the “social moment” of the connection: “You could have asked a question about the match!”.

The guests of European Nights

However, the program’s audience was large: he was there online from his home Tony Damascelli who made the report cards for the competition clashing with the judgments of Pecci (“yours are too good but report cards are like ties, everyone chooses their own”), in the studio Ubaldo Righetti, Valeria Ciardiello and Fulvio Collovati, with Giusi Meloni exploring the social world.
