Mike Bongiorno would have celebrated 100 years on May 26th. His wife, Daniela Zuccoli celebrated her 74th birthday. He celebrated them alongside her. «I wanted to celebrate my birthday on the set of the drama that Rai is filming, in Turin, about Mike’s life: him as a child, a partisan, prison, America, bad marriages. And the meeting with me in ’71.” To Corriere della Sera, Mrs. Bongiorno then admits: “He is always with me.” And then the protagonist Claudio Gioé, made up by Mike, «looks like him in a crazy way. Being there gave me a great emotion.”
Gerry Scotti: «Amadeus works too much, let him enjoy the money they give him. My child? I lost something”
The pain of Mike Bongiorno’s wife
15 years have passed since his death but Daniela and her three children always miss her. «With him there was something new every day – Daniela tells Corsera – she never got bored».
When they met she was 20 years old. He was 46. «Mike died when I was 59. I was with him for almost 40 years. I was just a little girl, but then I became a woman that he respected.”
Daniela Zuccoli tells her most special moment to her colleague Maria Volpe: «The birth of the third child, Leo, 18 years after the first. It really means that Mike and I wanted to be together. We chose each other a second time.” And with Leo, Mike was a different, sweeter dad. He had more time, he enjoyed it. Leo was 20 when Mike died, but they were together a lot.”
A new partner? «It has to be another Mike, it’s not easy. Flirting, suitors… they never led to anything.” And if she could see him again, even for a few seconds, she would tell him: “I’m so happy with you.” That’s what she thought but she couldn’t tell him moments before his death.
