Boos for Eden Golan, the singer representing Israel at Eurovision 2024. The start of the performance of the artist, competing in the second semi-final with the song Hurricane, was greeted by applause mixed with whistles and shouts of ‘howls’ of disapproval from the audience. A scene similar to the one that already occurred during rehearsals and also stigmatized by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who sent a video message to the singer before the show.
”You are competing not only in Eurovision in a way that makes us proud, but you are competing successfully in the face of an ugly wave of anti-Semitism and you are resisting all this by representing the State of Israel with great honor,” Netanyahu’s words . “When they ‘boo’ you, we shout ‘hurray’ for you,” says the prime minister.
Eden Golan goes straight onto the stage of the Malmo Arena, as expected he sings a part of the song in Hebrew and it is at that moment that the boos and the protests become more evident. The competitor closes her show by thanking the audience: “Thank you so much!”, shouts the singer, who walks away amidst applause and, again, whistles. At the end of the evening, the televoting verdict: Eden Golan in the final.
