The complaint against Minister Roccella: what happened

After the first roars from the public, the minister took the microphone and said: “Guys we agree, but no one said that someone else decides on women’s bodies. Absolutely no one”. However, the dispute continued. One of the protesters spoke briefly into the microphone, but was then interrupted by organizer Gigi De Palo. Therefore, while the protest continued, De Palo himself decided to give the floor to other guests, postponing Roccella’s intervention who, however, first left the stage and then the Auditorium.

Students detained by law enforcement

Some protesters were detained by the police at the Conciliazione Auditorium, for a document check, which however they opposed, asking to be allowed to leave. The protest was staged by some students from different parts of Italy with the transfeminist movement Aracne.

The slogan: “I decide about my body”

The signs with single letters shown by the students during the General States of Birth spelled out the words “I decide about my body”. The group, made up of around 50 mostly high school students, then left the Auditorium. Only then did work inside the hall resume. A police cordon was present to control the exit of the young people.

Meloni: “My full solidarity with you”

Giorgia Meloni wanted to express her “full and unconditional solidarity with Roccella. The show staged is ignoble. Once again a minister was prevented from intervening and expressing his ideas. A group of protesters who filled the mouth of the words freedom, respect and self-determination of women, but then they love censorship and prevent a woman from speaking because they don’t share her ideas. I hope that all political forces have the courage to express solidarity and to condemn, without ifs and no buts. It’s time to say enough.”

Mattarella calls Roccella

The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella telephoned Eugenia Roccella to express solidarity with her for what happened to the States General of birth rate, underlining that “wanting to silence those who think differently contrasts with the foundations of civilization and with our Constitution”.

Roccella: “I am censored, certain of the solidarity of the left”

Commenting on the episode with a post on Facebook, Roccella said she was “certain that the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein, the entire left, the intellectuals – Antonio Scurati, Roberto Saviano, Nicola Lagioia, Chiara Valerio -, the big press ‘ and the ‘militant press’ that we have seen mobilized in other locations in recent hours, will have unequivocal words of solidarity”. And she defined as “an act of censorship” what prevented her from speaking at the States General organized by the Birth Foundation, to carry out my speech and also to respond to the protestors-censors and speak with them. I am sure that the runners of freedom and democracy will not miss this opportunity to demonstrate that the evocation of fascism that does not exist, which we have witnessed in recent weeks, was not just a political drama ready to vanish in the face of real censorship”.
