Venus and Serena Williams today are two tennis phenomena, sporting icons known throughout the world. Their story inspired a biopic, entitled A Winning Family – King Richard. To interpret Richard Williams, the girls’ coach father, is Will Smith. Venus and Serena began their tennis journey as children at the behest of their father. Despite having no professional training, Richard decided that his daughters would conquer the world of tennis and so they did. Emerging from Compton, a rough neighborhood in Los Angeles, they worked hard on training the girls, transforming them into champions.
Serena Williams in this film has the features of Demi Singletonwhile Venus is played by Saniyya Sidney. The cast also includes Jon Bernthal, Liev Schreiber, Aunjanue Ellis, Tony Goldwyn And Andy Bean. A winning family – King Richard earned six Oscar nominations, winning the only statuette in the best actor category which went to Will Smith. That edition of the Oscars, however, was marked by an unpleasant episode involving the actor and Chris Rock shortly before the announcement of the victory.
