Rai (left-wing) and the fake news behind the strike

The management of Rai puts on paper that its journalists – at least those members of the left-wing union Usigrai – say and write fake news. Not bad for a “public service”, it’s as if the Minister of the Interior claimed that policemen steal and the Minister of Health that doctors kill. The problem is that, most likely, this is exactly the case, journalists – indeed not only those of Rai – are inclined, if not exactly to lie, at least to omit, to distort the truth according to convenience, to become indignant on command. This time the “command” of the red union is to strike today for the defense of the workplace and against alleged censorship that the leaders would impose on the news and in-depth programs so as not to disturb the government. Oh well, since when do Rai journalists fight to disturb the government of the day? But, above all, why should a public service disturb the government? Its function is not to disturb, but to inform with balance, to entertain, and once upon a time it was even to educate.

The truth is the opposite of what is claimed: if the right governs, and only if the right governs, journalists, hosts and guests (see Scurati case) take the unexpected liberty of using Rai for opposition political purposes, a public stage paid for by all of us used for private purposes.

Having said that the political opposition, data in hand, has never had so much space and visibility on the Rai networks, today’s strike makes us smile more than worry and not only because it is specious and political: Rai journalists are among the most protected categories, privileged and untouchables in the world of work, which should advise them, if only out of modesty, to use forms of protest different from those in use among railway workers and metalworkers.

The good thing is that the damage for all of us is minimal: if the local transport company goes on strike we will have to go on foot, if the trains stop there is chaos, but if the Rai news programs go on strike the solution is much simpler: just a click on the remote control and you change channels, the offer is wide and, in most cases, also of quality.
