His recent words have sparked a sea of controversy and despite having tried to justify them, they have triggered a reaction from Codacons, the consumer defense association which has asked for his removal from the event which will start soon. The reason behind this request.

During the press conference for theEurovision Song Contest, of which she will be host together with Gabriele CorsiMara responded to the singer by sending back to the sender the accusations of having put pressure on her weight and her sexuality, as reiterated in a MowMag article by Grazia Sambruna. “In my opinion, it wasn’t right that such a young boy weighed so much. It’s not healthy. I think I gave him some good advice in good faith. The show has some needs, but some. Of course, he didn’t do anything. The songs are what count and he had good songs. The same goes for homosexuality.” Maionchi said.
For Codacons, however, the statements would send a dangerous and wrong message to younger people: “RAI must remove Mara Maionchi from hosting the Italian edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with immediate effect. Maionchi’s statements regarding the weight and physical appearance of artists appear completely uneducational and potentially dangerous”. For now, no official statement has arrived from Rai, but it is certainly the umpteenth problem to be solved for Viale Mazzini.
