Raoul Bova, the shocking statement on Don Matteo 16
Asked by TV Smiles and Songs on the continuation of the Don Matteo series, Raoul Bova chose a deliberately ambiguous answer: “If there will be Don Matteo 16? I don’t know if Don Massimo will be there…”. This is a sentence that has inevitably fueled the doubts of the fans, already fresh from the passing of the baton between Terence Hill and Bova himself, called to take up the legacy of the famous priest-investigator. The Bova crisis after the Corona scandal
During the interview, Bova also revealed that he had seriously considering leaving the series after the scandal that exploded months agofollowing the diffusion of audio and private messages in Fabrizio Corona’s program “Falsissimo”. “When what we know happened,” the actor said, “I called the producers of the series to understand what was best to do…I told them: ‘If you think that, with my personal life, I am doing harm to such a beloved fiction, tell me and I’ll step aside.”.
At that moment, Bova even put adrastic hypothesis: the sudden death of Don Massimoso as to close the character in a clear way and allow the series to continue without him. “I had even proposed having Don Massimo die suddenly to get out of the scene”, he admitted candidly. But it seems that those responsible for the series immediately discarded this possibility.
Support from the cast of Don Matteo
What made the difference in Bova’s choice to remain ‘on board’ would also have been the behavior of other actors involved in Don Matteo. Despite the controversy and media outcry, Bova said he had never been left alone by his colleagues: “Nathalie Guetta, Francesco Scali and Pietro Pulcini they are like a family, they have never had a moment of prejudice or failure towards me when I was in difficulty”. On the other hand, he concluded, “we spend nine months on set, in close contact almost every day, we know each of us’s problems and we give each other advice”.
