It’s actually time to carefully choose your outfit to end the year in style. The password for December 31st? Glitter! Once considered kitsch, sequins are a mainstay of the autumn/winter 2025 collections, giving looks a mature opulence in fun but also serious versions. From Cucinelli to Chanel to Gucci they have proclaimed the longevity of sequins beyond the current season.
But the question remains: how to combine them in a sophisticated way? The catwalks offered some ideas in this regard, showing sequins in gunmetal grey, chartreuse green and cream. There were also transparent outfits, more appropriate for the red carpet, but also totally opposite choices: motorbiker boots combined with feminine sequined skirts.
Chocolate brown sequins
Chocolate brown is very trendy this season. This rich but also neutral shade has conquered everything and everyone, from accessories to footwear, and even sequins. A total look is definitely challenging but brown sequins and burgundy (for example) work well.
Under the tailoring
A foolproof equation for pairing sequins this season is to combine tailoring with a touch of fun. Eva Chen chooses a skirt, made with thicker sequins rather than smaller sequins, as a counterpart to the structured blazer; it’s feminine but unexpected, while the skirt’s shorter above-the-knee hem keeps the outfit’s proportions balanced.
In vibrant shades
Why not take advantage of the festive period to experiment with the color palette? Green is both seasonal and eye-catching, and looks incredibly cool when paired with only black accessories: think semi-sheer tights, patent pumps and a sleek mini.
Contrast of proportions
There are those who go straight from the office to the New Year’s party: an oversized funnel sweater with a thin belt and a sequined midi skirt underneath: it creates a feminine silhouette, formal and festive at the same time.
With the sportiest leather jacket
On December 31st the thermometer could get lower and lower but sequins can be worn with style, even on the coldest days. A butter-colored leather shearling jacket adds a cool-girl touch to the glitz of a silver sequined midi skirt, while a statement bag and stiletto-heeled knee-high boots contrast playfulness and sophistication.
