Among the questions that the finale of Stranger Things 5 will have to answer, one will not have an answer from the TV series but only from Netflix: why did Holly Wheeler’s actress undergo a recast?
Let’s take a small step back. Holly Wheeler was played by twins, Anniston and Tinsley Price, for four years. For the last season, however, the Duffer brothers preferred to inaugurate the adventures of Holly the Wise with one new actress, Nell Fisher. The recasting immediately raised many questions as the choice to change actresses would certainly have represented a disruption of the Wheeler family, whose members have remained the same since the first season. Furthermore, Nell Fisher is 16 years old (compared to the 15 of the Price sisters): how can a teenager play a child on the small screen? The age difference between the actresses is not much but for the public, initially, it made a difference.
So what lies behind this upheaval? In the fifth and final season, Holly has a decidedly central role in the narrative: she is the first child to be kidnapped by Henry Creel and, together with Max, tries to escape from Vecna’s mind by proving incredibly intelligent and courageous. For a more challenging role needed an actress who had more experience. The Price sisters, in fact, never acted much in the series.
First, however, there was “love at first sight”. Matt Duffer, in fact, said he stayed very impressed by Nell Fisher already in the trailer of The House: Rise of Evilwhere the young actress plays little Kassie. Subsequently, the casting director focused on Fisher and we saw the rest in Stranger Things 5.
