A “rock star” ovation, as Fabio Fazio himself underlines, welcomed Antonio Scurati into the living room of Che tempo che fa, sul Nove. The writer of “M. The son of the century”, the first of a successful series of novels on Mussolini, became the champion of the Italian left following the case of the monologue for April 25th missed in Serena Bortone’s Chesarà broadcast which had caused people to shout opposition to the “censorship of Tele-Meloni”, while Rai explained that everything stems from a lack of agreement on compensation. In the Sunday 28 April episode of the talk show, there is no mention of the monologue that started from the Matteotti crime and then accused Giorgia Meloni for her “neo-fascist culture”. But those who criticized the writer are attacked. “I thought that state television was the television of all of us, even mine and my readers”, begins Scurati who offers his reconstruction of the facts.

“Close to April 25th I was called as the author of five books that study and describe fascism and the anti-fascist resistance and I felt obliged to remember the radiant anniversary”, states Scurati who explains how in the text “I perhaps stated with force my beliefs, my values and my ideas and I criticized those who govern us, this is also one of the tasks of writers”. But then “I was dragged by my hair into a mud fight.”
The writer says that everything was ready for the intervention on TV, train tickets and hotels: “I was shaving, I already had my suitcase packed, when the call came from the presenter of the program, with whom he had never spoken. , and told me ‘your participation has been cancelled’.” The writer then talks about Giorgia Meloni’s post which denied any censorship, recalled the case of the lack of agreement on compensation and published, among other things, the full text of the monologue. “This is something that frankly shouldn’t happen in a democracy, that is, for a head of government with all the strength of his position to attack a private citizen with denigrating phrases.” And again: “This frankly deeply disturbed me and from there I spoke out to try to re-establish the truth of the facts.” There is no lack of a jab at Repubblica, the newspaper that has piggybacked on the case the most and which, following his speech in La Repubblica delle Idea, ran a headline about the “target” drawn on the writer’s face. “There is an excessive emphasis even on the part of your supporters, even that title of Republic… I didn’t say exactly that.”

Scurati’s version runs smoothly, without Fazio underlining what is missing from the reconstruction. “I was insulted in newspapers that colluded with the government and then when the second highest office of the state, the president of the Senate, calls you a profiteer then it ends up in a vulgar and base controversy – Scurati attacks again – The second highest office of the state is the state – he added – he cannot attack an individual. If someone wants to accuse me of something he can accuse me of making money against Mussolini”, he reiterates again.
