“We needed a hero for peace”
Descriptive text here

After speculation about a second season of Shogun, one of the main actors of the series has returned to talk about the finale of the first season.

Hiroyuki Sanadainterpreter of Lord Toranaga in the series FX, spoke in an interview with The Hollywood reporter about his character and the fate that awaited him at the series finale. These are his words:

I think it’s kind of a happy ending. There are some sad notes, but the ending reveals Toranaga’s dream, what she has wanted all this time and what he will create for Japan’s future. If people know the story, they already know what Toranaga creates. And that was the most important thing about this story for me: Toranaga ended [al periodo degli Stati Combattenti] and created an era of peace in Japan that lasted for approximately 260 years, until the country opened to the world. This is Toranaga’s vision. This is what he fought for and this is what got him the mentality that led him to never give up. […] Since I was a child I have read novels about him, watched films and television series about him. I also played Ieyasu once (in 1989 Japanese historical drama Oda Nobunaga). The reason I accepted the role this time is that I believe we need this kind of hero right now. We need a hero who brings peace. It is a very beautiful message for the world, especially now that human beings all over the world are once again fighting each other. Shogun shows how difficult it is to achieve peace.”
