Sport on TV: the long Rai summer

Milan-Roma on Thursday evening broadcast on Raiuno opens the long summer of sport on state TV.

“Free-to-air sport is very important – declared the director of RaiSport Jacopo Volpi today at the presentation of the schedules -, I thank the company which has spent a lot on the rights: it will be a very busy summer given that apart from the recent acquisitions of The Europa League and Italian tennis internationals will be characterized by the European football championships, the Olympics, cycling with the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France and many other events”.

The month of May will see the entire Giro d’Italia starting on Saturday 4th on Raidue and one match per day of the Italian internationals starting on Monday 6th with Sinner expected to be the protagonist.

The European Football Championships will take center stage in June: they will open on Friday the 14th with the hosts Germany facing Scotland, Rai will broadcast thirty-one matches live between early evenings on Rai Uno and late afternoons on Raidue, to which will be added RaiSport and of course the Raiplay platform. And in the same month we also note the European Athletics Championships in Rome, from 7 to 12 June, broadcast in full on Rai 2 also in prime time and the Tour de France from the 29th.

In July, from the 26th onwards, the spotlight will be on the Olympics, of which this year Rai has purchased 360 hours and not just the measly two hundred as happened in Tokyo: everything on Raidue from 7.30 in the morning to midnight. And, to follow, the Paralympic Games.

At the end of the presentation of the rich summer schedule, CEO Roberto Sergio stated that “Sport is a central investment for the company, we will continue to acquire the rights for events to offer free to our audience”.
