“What scares me in Italy”

Hard times for the left and for the PD, caught between the friendly-enemy fire of the 5 Stars and the recent scandals in Bari and Turin which have undermined its so-called moral superiority, much vaunted for years to the detriment of a right with “dirty hands” ”. How important is it, in these cases, for the political leader of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, to keep the bar straight? This is discussed in the living room of Quarta Repubblica, Rete4’s political in-depth programme, broadcast every Monday at 9.30pm and hosted by Nicola Porro. Among the guests present in the studio there is also Michele Santorojournalist, presenter, author and television producer.

The former face of programs such as “Annozero” and “Servizio Pubblico” has the task of judging the political leader of the Dems, who does not spare criticism: “Schlein has taken a party to pieces, a good duel has been engaged between her and the caciques and in the PD there has never been a debate, for example, about war. What scares me in Italy is the political void of perspective. This confusion that reigns around us affects everyone to a certain extent. Politics with a capital P has been put in the attic. There is a strong nostalgia for what the parties once were, even when they entered difficult fields they did so with ideas.”

Santoro, we remember, wants to run in the next elections for the European Parliament with his “Peace, Land, Dignity” movement. A list, according to him, “aimed at all the people who do not believe in wars”. From there also comes his fierce criticism of Schlein and to the PD, which does not distance itself clearly from the supplies of weapons to Ukraine for the conflict against Russia. The list, however, must overcome one last obstacle: collect 75 thousand signatures by April 30th.
