CATANIA «Due to a fire that broke out in the airport, flight operations are suspended until 2.00 pm on Monday 17 July». This was announced by Catania International Airport on Twitter. “There was no damage to people – continues the tweet – We thank the firefighters, state bodies, first aid and the airport community for having acted promptly”. The flames, which broke out for reasons yet to be ascertained, would have started from the lower floor and then extended to the departures terminal of the central structure. The firefighters also intervened from the headquarters of the provincial command and proceeded to evacuate passengers and personnel, limiting the blaze before 1.00 and providing for the safety of the area.
